Texas' Third Coast: America's Most Overlooked Beach Paradise

Unless you live in Dallas or Little Rock or Tulsa, Oklahoma, the first place that comes to mind when you think beach vacation is probably not Texas. But it should be. The Texas Gulf Coast, or America's Third Coast as it's affectionately referred, is 367 miles of warm water, seaside cantinas, and quirky beach towns unlike any you’ll encounter on the the Eastern and Western Seaboards. Here’s what makes this stretch of sand so damn charming.

Make breakfast tacos, not war: Texas towns clash on who gets inventor claim

There’s a war brewing in Texas. Not over guns, cattle or oil – but over breakfast tacos. The breakfast taco, for anyone who doesn’t know, has all the ingredients of a great breakfast: egg, bacon, sausage, cheese and beans wrapped up neatly in a tortilla and punctuated with a pop of salsa on top. It’s cheap, typically $1 to $3 per taco, depending on where you go, and it’s portable; a taco can be eaten with one hand.

What We Learned At Standing Rock: A Guide For Allies

Two weeks ago, four of us decided to drive to Standing Rock and deliver supplies to the water protectors and protestors of the Dakota Access Pipeline. We raised $3,500 in six days and filled two cars to the brim with milk of magnesia (for pepper spray in eyes), firewood, propane, sleeping bags, face masks, construction helmets and other supplies our contacts at the camp said they needed.

Sh*t’s Bad Right Now, So Here’s A Short Story About A Rescued Cat

Shit’s kind of heavy for all of us right now, and we have a long road ahead, but I thought maybe, just maybe, you’d like five minutes of light reading about how I saved a cat and she saved me. Her name is FatFace. She’s been feral for at least five years and she has three teeth and she weighs under five pounds.

Why We Should 'Like' Experiences -- Not Selfies

In a society that has become increasingly insular with the rise of emojis and Amazon delivery service, and more superficial with the glorification of talentless yet beautiful celebrities, why can't we encourage non-narcissistic behavior?

12 Enchanting Small Towns You Should Visit in New Mexico

Madrid, Ruidoso, Silver City and so many more. Endless chromatic skies, the smell of roasting green chiles, gorgeous adobe houses, craggy red mountains—these are the many reasons why New Mexico is called the “Land of Enchantment.” Though larger cities such as Albuquerque and Santa Fe offer plenty to see and do, it is the smaller towns that truly acquaint you with the enchanting traits of New Mexico.

Depeche Mode Saves

Last time Austin hosted Depeche Mode, mist shrouded their first weekend set at ACL Fest 2013. Gen X moms and dads tucked the kids in for the night, dug out tattered Violator shirts, and willingly gave their minds and spirits over to the band’s narcotic pulse. Much of that same ritual came into play Wednesday night at Circuit of the Americas.

STRANGE BREW Is So Bad It’s Awesome

Today marks the 35th anniversary of Strange Brew, and in honor of this great milestone, it's time to discuss this incredibly important, fiercly intellectual film. First, a little backstory: Strange Brew’s roots can be traced to the third season of Canadian sketch comedy SCTV, a series that catapulted the careers of John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, and of course, Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas.

Gillian Anderson Is The Feminist Twitter Hero We Need Right Now

I first started following actress Gillian Anderson’s Twitter account sometime in 2015 after the announcement of The X-files revival. I was a fervent X-phile in my youth—as seen by the very solid FBI badge I made when I was 10—and decided to follow her Twitter account to get updates on the show.

Price Check: What It Costs To Live Small

Tiny houses. We all love them, with their wee-size frames fit for a forest gnome and their Instagram-worthy décor that makes us want to throw away all our belongings—except for one decorative pillow, three books by Jack Kerouac, and forty-five potted succulents.
